Choose a MitID user ID before you show up at Citizen Service

Before you show up at Citizen Service, you must choose a MitID user ID (bring it). It is enough to write this on a piece of paper, if you have not started the MitID creation process online.

A user ID for MitID must meet the following criteria to be approved:

  • It must contain 5–48 characters.
  • It can only contain these characters (the same character may appear multiple times): abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzæøå0123456789 {}! # $ ^, * () _ + - =:;?. @ and spaces.
  • It must not be the same as your CPR number or consist of 10 numbers.
  • It must not start or end at intervals.
  • It must not be occupied by another MitID user.

Remember that your user ID is not the same as your password.

We recommend that you make more than one in case your preferred user ID is not available.

Why do we need MitID?

Digital solutions are being replaced by new ones over time. They need to be secure and be able to keep up with developments. MitID lives up to the latest standards for security, so we can travel safely online in the future.

That's why NemID has become MitID: MitID proofes who you are when you log in, approve actions or allows you to digitally sign documents.

You will not experience a big difference (however, you will no longer need to use your NemID key card or key app). But there is differences. Differences that makes it more difficult to misuse MitID, and that it is easier to further develop MitID into an everyday life where technology helps us more and more.

On MitID's website you can find much more information about MitID.
